Er verbindet in seiner Malerei Gegenständlichkeit mit freimalerischer Artikulation. Seit den 1970er-Jahren entwickelt der Künstler das Bildmotiv aus der Farbe heraus, ob Blumen, Landschaft, Figur oder abstrakte Formen. Entscheidend ist das prozessuale Moment, das über dem motivisch Inhaltlichen steht. Der Künstler begreift die Leinwand als Farbpalette, aus deren farbigen Grundsubstanzen das Bild generiert wird. Anfangs noch mit dem Pinsel arbeitend, gestaltet Bronner seit Mitte der 1980er-Jahre seine Leinwände auch mit den Fingern und platziert dabei den Bildträger horizontal zum Malvorgang.
