Het studied law at the Universities of Köln, Marburg, Erfurt and Wittenberg. At the University of Basel he promoted, and later he became professor in Erfurt. In 1583 he returned to Deventer and became major of the city. In 1587 he had to flee for the Spanish troops and went to Leiden, were he succeeded Hugo Donellus as professor of law and attracted many foreign students. First edition of this textbook with explanations of the Justinian digests was published in Frankfurt in 1608, this is an early German reprint of the editio postrema (last edition), first published in Leiden in 1624.
