Data on ancestors traced back to the 1200s in England, as well as relatives in Jamaica and Australia. References to related families named Diamond, Dolmage, Hunt, and Thompson. Copies of this privately printed book can be found at the American Antiquarian Society and Library and Archives Canada. This copy belonged to A. Maude (Cawthra) Brock and contains unique material inserted or pasted into the album: five letters, including several from Trinity College, University of Toronto; 50 original b&w photos, many of Col. Henry T. Brock in military uniform; family genealogies, both written and typed; printed and written resolutions of the Royal Grenadiers; leaflets and pamphlets of the Wellington County Historical Society (1934); rector's letters from St. James' Cathedral (1933); History of Cooling Castle (1910); news clippings.But the album focuses primarily on the life and times of Maude's husband, Col. Henry T. Brock (1859-1933), V.D., D.C.L. The son of William Rees Brock (a member of the House of Commons 1900-04) and Margaret Annia Diamond, Col. Brock was born in Oakville. He married Anna Maude Cawthra (d. 1943) in 1891. They had a daughter, Muriel, d. 1959. He joined the Queen's Own Rifles in 1877, went to the Northwest Rebellion in 1885, became affiliated with the 10th Royal Grenadiers in 1897, and was the chief recruiting officer in 1915-16 of the Military District No. 2, Toronto. A past president of the Toronto Board of Trade, he was also a barrister-at-law in Toronto from 1885 to 1910, was elected a life member of Trinity College in 1918 and a member of the Senate of the University of Toronto in 1920, Commander of the Order of St. John Jerusalem, and Honorary Colonel of the Royal Grenadiers.Many other family members are discussed in this fascinating album, including Sir Isaac Brock himself. There is also much information on and photos pertaining to residences, places, events, and historic battles.
