The Persian scholar Al-Zamakhshari (1075-1144) was one of the most important commentators on the Arabic languages. His major work, the Al-Mufassal is "celebrated for its concis…e but exhaustive exposition" (Encyclopaedia Britannica). The text in the present publication was based on various Arabic manuscripts collected by Broch himself, and is here printed together with Broch's commentary on the text, which gained him international fame.
