From 1311 to 1548, the cathedral was the tallest building in a world. The current structure is an immense Gothic architectural endeavour, which holds one of the four remaining copies of the original Magna Carta.Illustrated with sixteen double pages plates. Collated, complete.Rebound in cloth, with publisher's label to front board, but with endpapers renewed.Bookplate of Cynthia Chellini to front pastedown. Inscription to half title.The work of Charles Wild, a watercolour artist who specialised in architecture, particular of cathedrals. These events are told through extracts taken from Underwood's diary, who was a 'detenu', or prisoner, at the time.Contents include headings such as 'Events of January 1814' to 'Events of June 1814' as well as 'anecdotes of Buonaparte's journey to Elba'.Written by Thomas Richard Underwood (1772-1836). Underwood was a writer and an artist, with some of his artworks displayed at the Tate today.Edited by John Britton (1771-1857), an English antiquary, topographer, and author. He co-authored the popular 'Beauties of England and Wales' series, which was published from 1801 to 1814.Collated, complete. Bound in half morocco on marbled boards. Externally,smart.
