Wilmon Brewer (1895-1998) was an American literary scholar, poet, and writer. He graduated from Harvard in 1917, served in World War I, and was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he received his master's degree and doctorate in English at Harvard. Brewer was a poet, a biographer, and a literary scholar. His skill as a classical scholar is demonstrated by his analysis of Ovid's Metamorphoses in European Culture (1978). According to the Preface, "The greater part of the work tells the strange, eventful history of certain poetical forms - the triolet, the Italian sonnet, the sestina, and the pantoum." Most of these varieties are unknown to today's readers. Brewer uses his own poems or his translations to illustrate these verse forms. A very interesting study for the scholar of poetry. 8vo.
