Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. Near Fine dj. 4th printing. [minimal shelfwear, thin black marker line (remainder mark) on bottom edge of text block; the jacket has just a bit of faint soiling to the front panel and some light surface wear (essentially invisible inside its mylar covering)]. (B&W photographs) INSCRIBED ("With all… my love to my favorite hockey fan") and SIGNED by the author (just "Dave") on the front endpaper. Memoir by the famous hockey "enforcer" -- basically a guy whose primary job on the ice was to get into fights -- who played most notably for the Philadelphia Flyers (from 1971 to 1976), and to this day holds the all-time NHL record for most penalty minutes in a single season (472). He had been retired as an active player for about a year when this book was published, but went on to coach a number of minor-league teams. In 1982 he famously published an op-ed piece in the sports section of The New York Times -- written as a letter to his then 6-year-old son -- in which he expressed regret about his contribution to the level of violence that had come to characterize the game of hockey: "I wanted desperately to be a good, clean player just as I had been in junior hockey," he wrote, "but it was not to be. I was branded a goon [and] there was no turning back." Signed by Author. Illustrated by (dj design) Ken Braren (illustrator).

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. First Edition. Signed, without inscription, by Marshall McLuhan and Barrington Nevitt atop half-title page. "Marshall McLuhan is probably the most original theorist of the postindustrial world. No other contemporary social critic can match the daring of his imagin…ation, the sheer profusion and richness of his insights. He has been called 'the oracle of the electric age' and 'the sage of Aquarius'. Here, he argues that the old natural order has been scrapped, made obsolete by electric communications and satellites. To this end, the executive will have to drop out of his/her old organizational structures, whether these are in business, the military, the church, the universities, or government. Using brilliant aphorisms, striking illuminations, puns, and probes, the authors show how Nature must now be recreated as an art form." - dust jacket. "Written like a modern day internet blog, which is exceptional considering the 1972 publishing date. A key takeaway is that with the introduction of each new technology there is a change in the 'rim spin' of the Earth in terms of information and networking. This prescient book is highly recommended for anyone looking to expand their mind, especially for those developing a social or business philosophy." - Daniel R. Libby. Clean, bright, tight and unmarked with very light wear to original salmon cloth. Above-average wear to dust jacket now in glossy new archival-grade protection. Laid-in is a comprehensive review of this work by Arnold Edinborough which we believe appeared in Toronto's Globe & Mail newspaper. "The only people who have proof of their sanity are those who have been discharged from mental instututions." - Marshall McLuhan. ; Dust Jacket Design; 8vo; Signed by Author. Illustrated by Braren, Ken (illustrator).
