Maroon cloth cover has cream colored foil stamp on front and spine, lightly crushed top and bottom of the spine, cover is soiled lightly and spine is mildly worn with some soiling. Inside front cover has previous owner's name and address elegantly written, Mild pencil mark on the front fly sheet. Pages have minor pencil markings from time to time throughout the body, are lightly discolored due to age and have slightly loose hinges. This book is in very good condition.

Title page printed in red and black with central vignette. 8vo. Cloth is a little tired, rubbed and rounded at corners and tips of a sunned spine, a few mild marks. Shadowing and faint spotting on endpapers, tissue guard toned with offset toning in margins of frontispiece, hint of toning in margins throughout. A very pleasing vintage volume, elegantly produced albeit well used, providing a compelling guide to bookbinding practices up to the end of the 19th century.

The Simplified Spelling Board was founded in 1906, funded by Andrew Carnegie, and counted Mark Twain and President Theodore Roosevelt, and the English lexicographers James A. H. Murray, Walter W. Skeat and Joseph Wright among its members. The present collection of the Board's Circulars consists of 25 uniform items, all unbound and stapled. The collection is in fair condition, on lightly-aged paper, with occasional wear. Stamps, shelfmarks and labels of the Board of Education Reference Library, London. The collection consists of a run of Nos.1-25 of the Board's Circulars, lacking No.22 and with two versions (1907 and 1911) of No.16.
