Collated complete. The author, Alfred Bowker, was the Mayor of Winchester from 1897-1898 and again in 1900-01 and was heavily involved in the organisation of celebrations for King Alfred's Millenary in 1901. His locality and occupation are inspirations for this historical novel which tells an inventive account of Winchester's long history. In original blue cloth binding in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart and bright. Offsetting and scattered spotting to endpapers. Dust wrapper is sound with chipping and the occasional closed tear to the extremities. Handling marks to the wrap. Internally, firmly bound and pages are generally bright and clean.
