A binding set only, two of the four original full calf boards are present, spine cricked and chipped. 384 and 298 pp., errata slip tipped in at final leaf of Vol. II followed by one page publisher's list. Deaccessioned from a church archive and so stamped on the versos of the title pages. Text blocks are complete and relatively clean, some typical embrowning to the print blocks. Sold as is.

Bowden was the British Consular Chaplain at Christiania, Norway - now Oslo. In a fine full leather gilt decorated prize binding from Edinburgh Academy with raised bands and marbled endpapers. Label dated 1867/68 from John Alex Banks, M.A, Master to Hugh Patten. Little rubbing alongside spine and a repair to the backstrip at the top of the spine.See scans.

There is an embossed address stamp on front free endpaper and half title page and names on the front paste down and half title page. The covers have very light wear.
