A new, limited edition of this French novel by Louis Bertrand, originally published in 1899. This copy is number fifteen of sixty printed on Grand Velin de Rives. Louis Bertrand was born in France and later moved to Algiers; this is his first novel, which explores the complex identity of a French man living in Algeria.Notably, Bertrand's work often valorises the colony and its European inhabitants.This edition decorated throughout with compositions by Maurice Bouviolle, wood engraves by Paul Baudier. With a colourful frontispiece and other woodcuts in black and white throughout.The original wraps and spine and bound in with the volume.
