Des recherches formatives sur le terrain ont été menées en 2010 à Kibera…, le plus grand quartier urbain informel d'Afrique, situé à Nairobi, au Kenya. Les données ont été recueillies par le biais de groupes de discussion, d'une étude de cas et d'observations directes. Des recommandations ont été formulées pour une intervention visant à réduire l'incidence de la diarrhée infantile. Une campagne a été proposée pour promouvoir l'utilisation cohérente et durable du système d'eau potable, c'est-à-dire le traitement de l'eau potable au point d'utilisation et le stockage de l'eau potable. Les résultats ont révélé qu'il était effectivement possible d'appliquer le modèle occidental, la théorie du comportement planifié, comme cadre théorique de la campagne, à condition que des questions clés soient abordées. Tout d'abord, il fallait réduire les obstacles pour accroître l'efficacité personnelle et favoriser les attitudes positives à l'égard du traitement de l'eau au point d'utilisation.

La ricerca formativa sul campo è stata condotta nel 2010 a Kibera, il più g…rande insediamento urbano informale dell'Africa, situato a Nairobi, in Kenya. I dati sono stati raccolti attraverso focus group, uno studio di caso e osservazioni dirette. Sono state formulate raccomandazioni per un intervento volto a ridurre l'incidenza della diarrea infantile. È stata proposta una campagna che promuove l'uso coerente e sostenibile del sistema di acqua sicura, ossia il trattamento dell'acqua potabile al punto di utilizzo e lo stoccaggio sicuro dell'acqua potabile. I risultati hanno rivelato che era effettivamente possibile applicare il modello occidentale, la Teoria del Comportamento Pianificato, come quadro teorico della campagna, a patto che venissero affrontate alcune questioni chiave. In primo luogo, le barriere dovevano essere ridotte per aumentare l'autoefficacia e consentire atteggiamenti positivi verso il trattamento dell'acqua al punto d'uso. In secondo luogo, i comportamenti e le convinzioni normative dovevano essere valutati attraverso una lente culturale keniota e adattati al contesto della cultura. Questo lavoro supporta la ricerca esistente sull'uso della Teoria del comportamento pianificato nei Paesi in via di sviluppo.
