Since then a wealth of literature has been accumulated on various aspects of tropical and subtropical fruit crops. The present day fruit cultivation has become a highly sophisticated enterprise. In the process of a comprehensive literature survey it was felt impossible to compile the research results on tropical and subtropical fruits in one volume. The third revised edition of this book is, therefore, published in two volumes. The first volume consists of fruits like mango, citrus, banana, grape, pineapple, papaya, litchi, guava and avocado in about 730 pages. In the second volume olive, persimmon, pomegranate, date palm, ber, longan, annonas, sapota, passionfruit, fig, loquat, macadamia nut, aonla, jackfruit, rambutan, carambola, bael, tamarind, durian, syzygiums, feijoa, mangosteen, phalsa, tamarillo, acerola, karonda, wood apple, dillenia, kokam, salvadora, cordia and capparis have been included in about 880 pages. This book (in 2 volumes) is comprehensive and valuable text providing a complete overview of the principles and practices of tropical and subtropical fruit culture, 798 pp.

The third edition of this book has been the result of a thorough revision with updated information that was first published in 1986 reprinted in 1991 and further revised and published in 1997. Meanwhile lot of information has been generated in the field of propagation of horticultural crops in general and micro propagation in particular. The existing conventional propagation practices have been either improved or new methods have been evolved and a revolution has occurred in the field of biotechnology. While preparing the manuscript on Biotechnology of Horticultural Crops which was published in 3 volumes accumulation of enormous and valuable information on propagation of horticultural crops particularly from in vitro culture was very encouraging to bring out another revision of this book on propagation. It was a difficult task to summerise both macro and micro propagation of horticultural crops along with fundamentals of propagation practices within a proposed programme of a manuscript in one volume. The present edition is therefore published in two volumes. The first volume consists of propagation practices of fruit crops and 5 general chapters on fundamentals of sexual and asexual propagation propagation techniques and tissue culture methods. 662 pp.

Hardcover. Zustand: New. This book was first published in 1991 and was well received by students, teachers and researchers in many universities and institutes in India and abroad. In the past 28 years (since its first publication), tremendous progress have been made in temperate fruit research, notably in developing varieties and rootstocks, canopy management, understanding the flowering physiology, storage technology, biological control of pests and diseases, resistance breeding, biotechnology, etc., Revision of the book with updated information was considered necessary. In the process of a comprehensive literature survey it was felt impossible to compile all the information in one volume. This enlarged edition on temperate fruits is, therefore, published in tow volumes. The first volume consists of pome and stone fruits (apples, pears, peaches, plums, apricots and cherries) in more than 550 pages. The second volume deals with temperate nuts and berries (almonds, chestnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios, walnut, strawberries, currants, gooseberries, raspberries, blueberries and cranberries) in about 650 pages. Apart from through revision with updated scientific information on various aspects of mentioned pome, stone, nuts and berries, substantial reorganization of the text has been made. Emphasis has been laid to include released cultivars and rootstocks, recent trends in propagation and orchard management, pruning and canopy management, nutrition and tissue analysis, water management, improved technology for harvesting, postharvest handling, storage and ripening. Special emphasis has been laid to include the development in breeding and improvement through biotechnological approaches like molecular markers, genetic transformation, genetic map and microbes for N and P input. Other information like organic production technology, protected cultivation and impact of climate change are included, where sufficient information is available. Though the subject is vast, this two volumes book prese.

Several reports have shown that adequate intake of fruits form an important part of a healthy diet and low fruit intake constitute a risk factor for chronic diseases such as cancer, coronary heart disease, stroke and cataract formation. Fruits crops are thus considered essential for well-balanced diets since they supply vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre and phyto-chemicals. Special emphasis has been placed long back through the education on fruit science with the publication of the text-cum reference book in a single volume "Fruit Crops: Tropical and sub-tropical" as early as 1985. This book was greatly appreciated and proved valuable to the students, teachers, researchers and extension specialists in horticulture in general and fruit science in particular, in different parts of the world. Keeping the demand and interest of the stakeholders in view, this book was revised further in 1993 and 2002 through regular incorporation of updated research works in one and two volumes, respectively. Wide array of modern research approaches on fruit crops in India and abroad during last two decades warrant fourth revision of the book in four volumes. In this edition, every aspect of production, protection, breeding and biotechnology of 48 fruit crops grown in tropical and subtropical regions, were dealt with by eminent academicians and scientists on fruit crops in the country and abroad. This book, structured with thousands of references and colour photographs stands as unique of its own. Students, researchers, horticulturists, agricultural research scientists and extension personnel across the world will find this book very informative as well as practical.
