Ist Baron Glenesk, newspaper proprietor (1830-1908), 4pp., 8vo, stained but not obscuring text, giving his reason for not seeing Yates's "representation", and planning a pre-luncheon conversation about Napoleon, Palmerston and the like. He is pleased to be given a place in Yates's "Gallery".

A fine original colour lithograph from Vanity Fair, a magazine which was published from 1869-1914, featuring a large caricature portrait each week. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of Algernon Borthwick, with the caption ''The Morning Post". Accompanied by a one page biographical sheet. Sir Algernon Borthwick, 1st Baron Glenesk (27 December 1830 - 24 November 1908) was a conservative British journalist, and later the owner of the Morning Post (which merged with The Daily Telegraph in 1937).

2pp., 12mo. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper, with slight smudging to second page. Annotated by the recipient 'read & burn'. He explains that he is 'just off to Eastbourne', and asks her to send on her letter 'to The Editor [of the Morning Post]', adding that it is 'a risk to send to me'. He concludes by explaining that he and his wife have 'given our present long ago & I am subscribing to a Kensington one. We cannot subscribe to all.'.

Scuffing to boards and front board almost entirely detached. Marbled endpapers in the nonpareil style of burgundy, buff, eccru, turquoise and white. Bookplate to front free endpaper of Edward Montagu Stuart Granville, Earl of Wharncliffe, who was apparently one of the founders and principals.This bound gathering of 65 separate numbers of the admittedly irregularly-issued magazine covers February 13, 1867 to July 28, 1869. First issue was said to have been purposely numbered #1000 This publication seems comprised of parliamentary commentary, long barely attributed poems, general gossip, satire, double acrostics, advertisements,biting humor *usually at someone else's expense). and general Snooty Omniscience, Wikipedia's compendium of information states: "a satirical society newspaper published in London from 1864 to 1870. Irregularly published, but sometimes fortnightly, it cost 6d., was Tory in politics and consisted of a mix of satire and London society gossip. The Owl was founded by Morning Post editor Algernon Borthwick, together with Evelyn Ashley, Lord Wharncliffe (1827-99) and James Archibald Stuart-Wortley.[The Conservative MP Alexander Baillie-Cochrane, 1st Baron Lamington was joint editor of the paper from 1864 to 1868. Contributors included the architect Arthur Ashpitel (1807-69), Disraeli's private secretary Montagu Corry, Laurence Oliphant, and Henry Drummond Wolff.[2] They also included Mortimer Collins, Lord Houghton, Ralph Bernal Osborne, George Otto Trevelyan, and Thomas Gibson Bowles."
