Trajecti ad Rhenum [Utrecht] : typis G. Zylii et T. Ackersdijckii [Zylius & Ackersdijckius], 1659. First and only edition. Duodecimo, contemporary calf (a few scuff marks, corners worn, joints expertly repaired); front free-endpaper with early ownership inscription, pp. [2], 194, [1 errata]; text in Latin; top-edges trimmed close, resulting in partial loss of letters in the first line of the title (no other loss of text), fore-edge of title also a little roughened, otherwise internally very good. An obscure religious work by the Dutch Protestant jurist Abraham Boreel (1605-1664). The main title roughly translates as: Sacred missions; or, the mutual union of Christians, to be gleaned, promoted, and fraternally maintained among those who pursue peace and charity. The second part of the work is a commentary on the conversion of Jews to Christianity. Boreel was born into a noble family in Middleburg. His older brother, jurist and diplomat Sir Willem Boreel, 1st Baronet (1591-1668) was an important early figure in the Dutch East India Company who was knighted by James I of England.
