The second edition of the "History of the Princes and Kings of Bohemia" (1687), the 7th book of the monumental historical work "Historical Miscellanea from the Kingdom of Bohemia" (Miscellanea historica regni Bohemiae) by the celebrated Czech historian Bohuslav Balbin (1621-1688). A complete and well-preserved copy. As the title suggests, the work gives an account of the reigns of the Bohemian princes and kings, from legendary ones to Charles VI. The book features a frontispiece (copper engraving of the emperor Charles VI surrounded with allegorical figures) and 56 full-page copper engravings of Bohemian rulers; all engravings were made by Anton Birckhart (1677?-1748?). The text is supplemented with 10 double-page plates with genealogical tables. Antiqua typesetting; pages are decorated with a large woodcut headpiece with floral motives, three large woodcut tailpieces and many initials with floral and figural motives.
