Heavier tanning to free endpapers. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Thumb-marking present. Noticeable creasing to gutter. Cracking to gutters, with exposed netting. Pages remain intact. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Soft crushing to spine ends. Light tanning to spine and edges. Water staining to boards. Unclipped jacket has moderate edgewear with chips, tears and creasing. Loss to spine ends and edges. Notable tanning to spine. Visible rubbing to surfaces. Scuffing to edges.

Hardcover. Zustand: Poor. 1st Edition. 5½ x 8½" pp. xvi + 625. Poor in dark blue cloth. Front hinge is cracked and front cover is loose. An attempt was made to repair this with sticky tape and there is some horrible white tape on each side of the spine. But the book is still intact. Contents clean with no marks, stamps or stains, with just the signature of a former owner, none other than Exeter's most famous historian, W.G. Hoskins. No dustwrapper.

First edition, first printing. Very good in somewhat mottled blue cloth (as seems typical for this title). The binding at the front is loose.
