About the Book:- This book lays down the results of a cruise, aboard a schooner named Terrapin, in 1901 to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with the objective of collecting good samples of the natural history and ethnological data; special attention was paid to the collection of small mammals and they managed to find 16 new species. The chapters of this book notice a separate Island visited were Barven Island, Port Blair, Macpherson, Strait-South Andaman and Rutland Island, the Cinques and little Andaman, Kar Nicobar, Tilanchong, Trinkat, Nankauri, Kamorta, Kachal, little Nicobar, Pulo Milo, Kondul, great Nicobar and its coasts. The book ends with seven chapters on the Island and its inhabitants, the aborigines, the Nicobaries, an old account of Kar Nicobar, customs of the Kar Nicobaries and the fauna of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The book has 11 appendices that discuss the weather in the Andamans, the forests, the produce, census, government schools, flora, trade and barter. This book has 78 illustrations and photographs. About the Author:- Cecil Boden Kloss was an English zoologist. He was an expert on the mammals and birds of Southeast Asia. In the early 20th century, Kloss accompanied the American naturalist William Louis Abbott in exploring the Andaman and Nicobar islands. During the years 1912-1913 Kloss participated in the 2nd Wollaston Expedition to Dutch New Guinea, led by British medical doctor and explorer A.F.R. Sandy Wollaston, in the capacity of zoologist. From 1908 he worked under Herbert Christopher Robinson at the museum in Kuala Lumpur. He was Director of the Raffles Museum from 1923 to 1932 and President of the Malayan Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society in 1930.
