Softcover, 21 cm. Zustand: Sehr gut. 204 pp., 16 tables, 15 graphs. A perfect copy. - The economic crisis hit individuals and households hard. Not surprisingly, it took a long time before people took to the streets; research shows that debtors with serious debt problems tend to suffer quietly. This book provides empirical information and profiles of debtors who have filed bankruptcy or debt adjustments because of serious debt problems. Previous research demonstrated that unemployment and health problems contribute to over-indebtedness. This book suggests that it is also the other way round: debt also contributes to ill-health. It also shows that relief is possible. With examples of debt adjustment laws in Sweden, the Netherlands and Austria and consumer protection in Japan and South Africa, the book argues that legal systems can and should help over-indebted households. Contents: Introduction (Wolfram Backert, Susan Block-Lieb, Johanna Niemi) -- Never too Small to Fail: Insolvency of Consumers as an International Concern (Johanna Niemi) -- Regulation and Self-regulation in the Fight against Over-indebtedness in the Netherlands: A Socio-legal and Economic Analysis (Nick Huts, Nadja Jungman) -- The New Swedish Debt Relief Act (Annina Persson) -- Fourteen Years of Consumer Bankruptcy in Austria (Georg E. Kodek) -- South African Homeowners Are Not Protected against Various Interest Rates Hikes (Michelle Kelly-Louw) -- Punishing the Lender for Who's Sake? Impacts of the New Case Law and Follow-ups to the 2006 Reform of the Consumer Credit Regulation in Japan (Souichiroun Kozuka) -- Unemployment and Over-indebtedness in Germany (Michael Knobloch) -- The Ultimate Victims of the Economic Crisis: A Portrait of Portuguese Overburdened Families (Claudia Abreu Lopes, Catarina Frade, Fernanda Jesus) - Over-indebtedness, Health and Social Network (Eva Münster, Ulrike Zier, Heiko Rüger, Stephan Letzel) -- The Role of Government as a Creditor of the Disadvantaged (Stephanie Ben-lshai, Saul Schwartz, Jeremy Barretto). Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Global lawmaking by international organizations holds the potential for enormous influence over world trade and national economies. Representatives from states, industries, and professions produce laws for worldwide adoption in an effort to alter state lawmaking and commercial behaviors, whether of giant multi-national corporations or micro, small and medium-sized businesses. Who makes that law and who benefits affects all states and all market players. Global Lawmakers offers the first extensive empirical study of commercial lawmaking within the United Nations. It shows who makes law for the world, how they make it, and who comes out ahead. Using extensive and unique data, the book investigates three episodes of lawmaking between the late 1990s and 2012. Through its original socio-legal orientation, it reveals dynamics of competition, cooperation and competitive cooperation within and between international organizations, including the UN, World Bank, IMF and UNIDROIT, as these IOs craft international laws. Global Lawmakers proposes an original theory of international organizations that seek to construct transnational legal orders within social ecologies of lawmaking. The book concludes with an appraisal of creative global governance by the UN in international commerce over the past fifty years and examines prospective challenges for the twenty-first century.…
