The first edition of From Capetown to Ladysmith, an insghtful autobiographical account during the Second Boer War, written by British journalist G.W. Steevens, and edited by Vernon Blackburn. In the publisher's original golden cloth, with an in-text map of the area surrounding Ladysmith and a folding map showing South Africa during the War. Collated complete. A war correspondent for the Daily Mail, Steevens relays his personal experiences while caught under the protracted Siege of Ladysmith, being an insightful source for studying the colonial conflict. Steevens was known to lift morale with his entertaining witticisms and entertaining anecdotes from the Ladysmith Lyre. Steevens would die of typhoid when the book was published in 1900, six weeks before the siege was relieved. In the publisher's original golden cloth. Externally, mostly smart, with minor fading and browning to boards. Minor rubbing to joints and to edges. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities.
