Joel Oppenheimer (1930-1988) was an American poet who attended Black Mountain College in North Carolina from 1950-1953 and became associated with both the Black Mountain poets and the New York School. He was the first director of the St. Marks Poetry Project (1966-1968). Oppenheimer's first volume of poetry was published in 1956, and he published prolifically until his death. He was also known as a contributor to the Village Voice, and a posthumous volume, Drawing from Life, collected 92 columns written for the Village Voice. One of 200 cloth trade copies. Inscribed on the title-page. "For Martin & Tracy / with all love on this / good day - in your / new space/ Joel Oppenheimer/ 2/22/86/ Swedesburg." Small quarto. Bound in the original quarter cloth with printed paper boards and dark blue paper title pastedown to spine.
