Very good clean tight sound square, no bookplate, inscription or ownership marks of any kind. Beautifully bound in bright gilt lettered, ruled and illustrated morocco leather bound over blind embossed, textured wide weave linen cloth boards gently faded to fore-edge with light splashes to upper of Vol I, all edges of leaves with coloured marbling. Elephant folios are vulnerable to bumping due to their size. The volumes in hand are gently bumped and lightly frayed to a lower leading corner each, fraying to 1cm to Volume II. More often seen as a single volume in cloth, this is the seldom seen morocco leather-backed double volume edition, a most attractive and collectable set with excellent imposing shelf presence, featuring elaborate scorlled floral gilt embossed dentelles and vignettes, and with the definitive illustrations of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, considered by many to be among the very best of Dores career. A delight for reader, scholar and collector alike. Huge heavy tomes such as this accrue additional postage charges, particularly outside Europe and possibly prohibitive overseas. Please inquire.
