Paperback. Zustand: New. Language: English. About the book -: The book is in two volumes. First volume contains from the first to the 12th year of his reign; the second volume covers from the thirteenth to the beginning of the 19th year of his reign. It describes emperor Nuru-d-din Jahangir hails from the illustrious Babur family. The memoir writing trend descended to Babur down from his great ancestor, Amir Timur. In spite of his varied preoccupations in battles and other political knottings, Babur had well afforded to roll out his memoirs which outline more vividly as compared to those of his ancestors.Jahangir kept up to the scene as the Ruling Soul for a long duration of twenty-two years. The incentive of carrying on his memoirs ended in the seventeenth year of his rule due to breakdown in his health after which they were continued by Mu'tamad Khan till the 19th year of Jahangir's power, under his pseudo name. The memoirs were conclusively written out in the narrative of Iqbal-nama of which Mu'tamad Khan was the distinguished author. The present Tuzuk-i-Jahangiri or Memoirs of Jahangir give a lively picture of India in the early decades of the seventeenth century and are a valuable supplement to the Akbar-nama and other such writings of the time.Jahangir's autobiography also reflects the royal ideology of Jahangir's views on various political, religious and social issues. Within the memoir, he noted many of his local level legislative policies in his large empire consisting of most of modern-day India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Among them were his decrees to manage and regulate the jagirdars. Jagirdars were holders of the jagir, the emperor's land grant title. About the Author -: Henry Beveridge (18371929) was an Indian Civil Service officer and orientalist in British India. From November 1863 he was posted for one year to the Foreign Department, serving in Manipur on special duty, after which he was sent to Kuch Behar as Joint Magistrate and Deputy Collector and then successively transferred to Dhaka, Noakhali, Hughli, Barisal, Chittagong and back to Barisal in June 1871. In 1875 he entered the judiciary and was posted to Rangpur as District and Sessions Judge in December 1876, serving in the same capacity in the districts of Pabna, 24 Parganas, Faridpur, Birbhum, Hughli, and Murshidabad until his retirement in 1893. He was elected President of The Asiatic Society (of Bengal) for 189091. Batsford, London, 1st edition, 1955; edited Gilbert McAllister; 8vo, pp 160; slight marking on the cover and the dust wrapper slightly torn head and foot but a very good copy. At a time of growing concern about the annihilation of humanity as a result of the growth in nuclear weapon capability the five articles and other material in the book address the question of containment and disarmament. Although written some sixty years ago present-day posturing among all relevant nations today suggest that the messages remain pertinent.
