Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This is a collection of nine ecclesial acts, composed by the Cardinal John Bessarion, relating to the fate of some churches under Greek jurisdiction and what their fate will be because of the contemporary fate of the late Eastern Roman Empire. Select Acts grant some insight into the deteriorating state of the late Byzantine church, and the short lived attempt to achieve full union between the Catholic and Orthodox faiths following the conclusion of the Council of Florence in 1439 AD.
Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - This is a short document, chronicling the death of the 3rd to last Eastern Roman Emperor, Manuel II. He laments that the Emperor died too soon and grants a litany of his accomplishment during his reign over the fragile fragments of the Roman state. Bessarion preserves this text in Latin, as the future Imperial administration under his son John VIII, would look to the Papacy and the Italian states for political protection.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Bessarion (sometimes with the prenomen John of Basil), the famous Greek Orthodox bishop who involved himself in ecumenical dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church composed this work of apologetics, following the failed union of churches at the Council of Florence. He attempts to report on and display the common doctrinal ground that is at the root of East-West Christian dialogue to his fellow Greek bishops, many of whom were living in exile, or under Turkish domination. His primary opponent in this text is the Byzantine scholar Gregory Palamas, who firmly denied the validity of the Latin filoque.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - In 1458 George of Trebizond transferred the Plato-Aristotle controversy from the Byzantine world to the Latin by publishing his Comparatio Philosophorum Platonis et Aristotelis et Praestantia Aristotelis, a full-scale attack on Plato and the Platonic tradition from antiquity to the present day, ending with a violent diatribe on the dangers posed by the influence of Cardinal Bessarion's recently deceased teacher, George Gemistus Pletho. To respond, Bessarion knew that he would have to do so in Latin, but in actuality, he composed his response in Greek and then translated it into Latin. The result was the Liber Defensionum contra Obiectiones in Platonem, which was ready for publication by 1466. At that point, however, he withdrew it from publication in order to expand its content as well as to refine its Latinity. Bessarion's response finally appeared in 1469 as the In Calumniatorem Platonis. But it was in the Liber Defensionum that Bessarion made his major decisions on what to include as well as what to exclude from his original Greek text and exactly how he would render the Greek into Latin. Thus, to understand the language and structure of the In Calumniatorem Platonis one must turn first to the Liber Defensionum.

8°. OLwd. mit OUmschl. LXII, 308 S. Philosophische Bibliothek ; Band 670. - Sehr gutes, fast neuwertiges Exemplar. Zustand: as new. Textum graecum addita vetere versione latina, primum editit L. Mohler. Aalen : Scientia Verlag,1967. Reprint 1927-edition. Orig. cloth binding. viii, 636 pp. Greek and latin text on opposing pages. (Quellen und Forschungen aus dem Gebiete der Geschichte 22; L. Mohler. Kardinal Bessarion als Theologe, Humanist und Staatsmann, Band 2). Verlagsneu. Bessarion of Trebizond (1403-1472) was a cleric in both the Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholic churches, and became an influential humanist, patron of humanists, and Neoplatonic philosopher. This study was first published in 1469, and one of the earliest expositions on Platonism to appear in print, was published well in advance of any of Plato's own works, and therefore contributed greatly to disseminating and popularizing Platonic philosophy in the West. It is an attempt to reconcile Plato with Christianity as well as to reconcile Plato with Aristotle and find the appropriate place for both of them in Christian philosophy. Ludwig Mohler published in 1927 this critical edition from the original manuscripts and printed sources. Condition : as new copy. ISBN 9783511033927.
