Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Susan Reich is a 17-year-old American who goes to Israel seeking to solve a family mystery. Susan's quest takes her to unexpected places where she confronts layers of history that she never knew. While trying to find her missing uncle, with the Adolf Eichmann trial in the background, she explores awakening emotions in herself and gets involved in the political struggles of the moment. The seven months that Roslyn Bernstein spent in Jerusalem in 1961, when she listened to the stories of immigrants and survivors and daydreamed about their meanings, was a source of inspiration for The Girl Who Counted Numbers. She has been attentive to historical accuracies of time and place but the story of Susan Reich, her family, and friends is fictional.

Lovely copy of this uncommon and out of print book detailing the rich tradition of artists in Soho, particularly centered around 80 Wooster street where George Maciunas, de facto leader of the Fluxus movement, and many others lived, worked, and showed their work. 300 pages, many illustrations in color and b/w with copious text elaborating the rise, peak, and inevitable decline of this near utopian experience of artists in NYC. Excellent condition. Binding solid, sturdy, square, albeit with one crease running the length of the spine, which although not detrimental to the overall integrity of binding, is however noticeable when open to the page at which it is creased. Very minor traces of shelfwear, tinnily rubbed or scuffed edges and corners, though hardly so and all negligible, with the book also now covered in mylar. Interior bright white, clean, free of marks of any kind. Overall a lovely copy of this rich and informative volume.

Published by The Jonas Mekas Foundation, Vilnius/Lithuania, 2010. Red OBrosch. 300 pages with 133 illustrations (47 in color). - 24 x 24. * The story of the building at 80 Wooster Street in New York and the people who lived and worked there. The first of 16 artists coops started by George Maciunas, founder of the Fluxus art movement, Fluxhouse Coop II spurred the development of SoHo and the spread of worldwide loft conversions. Using archival finds, extensive interviews, architectural expertise, and first-person accounts, the authors reveal the myriad ways that the legal formalities and unavoidable business decisions of a live-work cooperative were shaped on a daily basis. The artists of SoHo, while focused on their art, also built community, participating in the creation of a new form of residential development. The building was a magnet for the avant-garde who were drawn to Jonas Mekas Cinematheque, a ground-floor space that hosted happenings, film screenings, dance and theater performances, concerts, and art shows. Hundreds of artists including Trisha Brown, Richard Foreman, Allen Ginsberg, Philip Glass, John Lennon, Hermann Nitsch, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, and Andy Warhol showed their work in and around the building. The artists who lived and worked at 80 Wooster played major roles in music, film, and the fine and performing arts. - English texts. - Rare and as new !
