Westfriesland, zeer beducht voor een overheersende positie van Amsterdam, heeft nog geprobeerd dat het IJ de zuidgrens zou worden, maar zonder resultaat. In dit boek is dat wel het geval. Niet uit politieke of economische overwegingen, maar om taalkundige redenen vormen de dialecten die benoorden het IJ worden gesproken het onderwerp van dit boek. Die dialecten zijn het Kennemerlands, het Waterlands, het Zaans en het West-fries. De grenzen tussen deze verschillende dialectgroepen zijn niet heel scherp, maar leven wel sterk in het taalbewust zijn van de sprekers. Vooral de West-friezen zijn zeer taalbewust.…
