En 1851, Josef Kling y Bernhard Horwitz, publicaron "Chess Studies, or endings of games-Containing upwards of two hundred scientific examples of chess strategy (Estudios de ajedrez o finales de partidas, con más de doscientos ejemplos científicos de estrategia ajedrecística), era una obra…sensacional, pues entonces no había manuales que estudiaran el final de manera sistemática. En 1884, Horwitz publicó "Chess studies and End-Games", libro que contenía 427 posiciones. Entre ellas se contaban todos los estudios de la edición de 1851 y otros 50 que había compuesto con Kling. Sin embargo, Horwitz no mencionó el nombre de Kling e incluso presentó una copia manuscrita de la obra para ocultar la coautoría. Kling and Horwitz [Edited by Henry C. Mott] Bernhard Horwitz (1807-1885) was a German and British chess master, chess writer and chess composer | Josef Kling (19 March 1811 - 1 December 1876), also found in English-language sources as Joseph Kling, was a German chess master and chess composer. He has been called a pioneer of the modern style of chess. Although he was an expert on endgames and problems, he rarely played competitively.
