Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Das Prinzip, nach dem sich Gengas Künstleranatomie aufbaut, ist -- neben anderen Schemata -- bis heute maßgeblich geblieben: der Schüler wird zum Ziel, d. h. zur Darstellung des menschlichen Körpers in seiner Beweglichkeit und Veränderungsfähigkeit ,von innen nach außen" geführt. Zuerst werden ihm die inneren, anatomischen Ursachen der Veränderungen vorgeführt, dann die Bewegung selbst. Zu diesem Zweck mußte man den Körper im ursprünglichen Sinn des griechischen Wortes Anatomie ,zerlegen". Hierbei interessieren aber nur zwei Bereiche der speziellen oder deskriptiven Anatomie: Knochen- und Muskelkunde und von diesen wiederum nur, was zum Verständnis des menschlichen Bewegungsapparates notwendig ist. Aus der Osteologie : Schädel und Wirbelsäule als Funktionsträger und die Knochen der Extremitäten im Zusammenhang mit ihren Gelenken, dem ,Hebelwerk". Aus der Myologie: Gesichtsmuskeln, die physiognomische Veränderungen verursachen, Bauch- und Rückenmuskulatur mit ihren Hauptsträngen, Schulter-, Arm- und Beinmuskeln mit Hand und Fuß in verschiedenen Stellungen. Coperta moderna in mz.pelle con titoli e fregi in oro al dorso a sei nervature, e piatti decorati. Il frontespizio, in bordura e con cornicetta decorativa alla parte inferiore, presenta vecchi restauri ai margini esterni ed un alone alla parte inferiore, che interessa anche l'occhiello e le prime due tavole. Il volume comprende 40 tavole incise su rame, frontespizio incluso, cui segue una suggestiva rappresentazione allegorica della morte: di queste incisioni le prime 23 raffigurano dettagli anatomici del corpo umano, mentre nelle rimanenti 16 sono plasticamente raffigurate altrettante posture corporee. Delle prime 23 tavole 11 contengono all'interno la legenda dei particolari anatomici ivi indicati, mentre le altre 12 constano di allegata tavola esplicativa. Esemplare genuino, ma con coperta non adeguata all'opera. Edizione originale, pubblicata postuma, del primo saggio dedicato completamente alla anatomia chirurgica, opera del medico marchigiano Bernardino Genga (Mondolfo, 1620 ? 1690) che fu docente alla Accademia di Francia di Roma. Il testo e le note sono a cura di Giovanni Maria Lancisi (Roma, 1654 ? 1720), mentre il ricco apparato iconografico si deve al lavoro del pittore francese Charles Errard il Giovane (Nantes, 1606 ? 1689), le cui tavole sono qui incise da François Andriot (Paris, 1655 circa - 1704). > Garrison / Morton, 386, "This is one of the finest of the all books on anatomy for artists".
