Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very good. Sarah Bertin (Author photograph) (illustrator). First Printing [Stated]. xv, [1], 252, [2] pages. Foreword by Newt Gingrich. Map. Notes. Appendix One. Appendix Two. Index. Ilan I. Berman (born December 23, 1975) is an American lawyer and educator. He is the Vice President of the American Foreign Policy Council, a non-profit U.S. foreign policy think tank in Washington, DC. He focuses on regional security in the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Russian Federation. Berman has a BA in Politics from Brandeis University, an MA in International Politics from American University, and a JD from Washington College of Law. Berman is adjunct professor for International Law and Global Security at the National Defense University, and a member of the Associated Faculty at Missouri State University's Department of Defense and Strategic Studies. He also serves as a member of the Committee on the Present Danger, writes a monthly column for Forbes, and is an Editor of The Journal of International Security Affairs. He has also advised the United States Department of Defense, agencies of the U.S. government including the CIA, and offices of congressmen on matters of foreign policy and national security. Lou Dobbs of CNN in 2008 described him as "one of the [U.S.]'s leading experts on the Middle East and Iran." Crises political, social, and economic run rampant within Mother Russia's borders. Russian troops infiltrate the Crimean peninsula, the UN Security Council attempts to mediate concerning the conflict with Ukraine, and the United States pledges aid to former Soviet satellites and civil war teeters on the brink of eruption. In the wake of the Sochi Olympics, it is Russia that is skating on thin ice, and Vladimir Putin's autonomous regime looks shakier by the minute. Ilan Berman shows the future of the country as grim and on the fast track to complete ruination. Is the end in sight for this former superpower? In Implosion, Berman explains why Russia's collapse is imminent and how this nation's ultimate demise will vitiate the United States. From the author's website: Russia Is In Danger Of Collapsing Upon Itself--and it could do so with reverberations that would rock America and the rest of the world. Ilan Berman of the American Foreign Policy Council sounds the alarm in Implosion: The End of Russia and What It Means for America. While America is preoccupied with threats from the Middle East and China, a monumental transformation is underway in the most massive nation on earth: nuclear-armed Russia. Russia's first crisis will be a social one: a demographic collapse of the Slavic population, gutted by alcoholism, early death, and abortions that historically have outnumbered live births. Filling the void is a rising Muslim population, including radical Islamists who seek to subvert the nature of the Russian state. In the background is an emerging strategic rivalry with neighboring China, which has growing designs on Russia's resource-rich east. Ilan Berman paints a grim picture of Russia's precarious future, how the former superpower might unravel, and what impact the end of the Russian state as we know it would have on America.
