Translated by Thomas Beddoes, the Swedish chemist " published his important tables of chemical reactions and advanced a simplified version of Macquer's classification of types of reactions. Torbern, a noted Swedish chemist, published his 1775 Dissertation on Elective Attractions in 1775. It contained the largest chemical affinity tables ever published. Octavo, (xv), 382pp., emandanda page, five foldout plates (chemical charts), original leather boards, inner hinges cracked, new paper spine. Title page professionally repaired. Near Good. Scarce.
Leipzig, J.G. Müller, 1786-92. Bound in 6 fine uniform cont. mottled hcalf. Gilt backs, gilt title-and tomelabels on backs. Some browning and brownspots throughout. With 15 folded engraved plates (the last 2 in fine facsimile (in vol. VI)). Scarce edition of Bergman's collected chemical and physical dissertations and memoirs. The publication of the work was initiated by Bergman himself and the first 3 volumes were published in Stockholm. After Bergman's death Hebenstreit reedited the work and reprinted the 3 first volumes in Leipzig together with volume 4-6. The copy here is the first Leipzig-edition and the most complete as vol. 1-3 were expanded and contains in all 72 dissertations and memoirs which hereby forms a collection of all the author's scientific papers. - Duveen p. 66 - Partington III:p. 183.
