Am Rücken leicht eingerissen, sonst ein gutes und sehr sauberes Exemplar. - Die Entdeckung der Fundstelle Harzhorn ist eng mit Winfried Schütte und Rolf Peter Dix aus der Gemeinde Kalefeld, Landkreis Northeim, verknüpft. Bereits im Jahr 2000 durchstreiften sie unter Einsatz von Metallsonden illegal den Wald am Harzhorn auf der Suche nach den Resten einer mittelalterlichen Burganlage. Diese in einer Sage beschriebene Burg wurde jedoch nicht entdeckt. Nach langer erfolgloser Suche kamen dann doch erste Funde an das Tageslicht, u. a. eiserne Geschossspitzen, Achsnägel und eine Schaufelhacke. Wenig später gelang den beiden ein außergewöhnlicher Fund, eine römische Hipposandale, die jedoch von ihnen zunächst als Kerzenhalter interpretiert wurde. Die Entdecker schlossen aus der Zusammensetzung des Fundspektrums, dass es sich um Objekte aus dem Mittelalter handeln müsse. Deshalb wurde den Funden zunächst keine große Bedeutung beigemessen. Nach einer groben Säuberung und eigenständig durchgeführten Restaurierung - die Stücke wurden mit Rostumwandler behandelt, dann mit Schleifgeräten, u. a. mit einem Winkelschleifer weiterbearbeitet wurden die Stücke gut verwahrt in Schubladen gelegt und gerieten in Vergessenheit. Etwa acht Jahre später fielen die Fundstücke Winfried Schütte wieder in die Hände. Nun fertigte er Fotos von einigen Fundobjekten an und stellte diese in ein Forum im Internet ein, um nähere Hinweise zu den Stücken zu erhalten. Bereits nach wenigen Minuten erhielt er die ersten Antworten und zu seinem Erstaunen die Mitteilung, dass es sich um römische Objekte handeln solle. Diese Aussage und das Bewusstsein, illegal gesucht zu haben, veranlasste Winfried Schütte dazu, im Sommer 2008 erst nach langer Überlegung die zuständige Kreisarchäologin aufzusuchen. Damit fiel der Startschuss zur eigentlichen Entdeckung des Fundplatzes. Nach Sichtung des Fundmaterials war schnell die römische Provenienz der Objekte klar. Es bestanden seitens der Kreisarchäologie aber zunächst große Zweifel an der dargestellten Fundauffindung bzw. dem Fundort Harzhorn. Eine anschließende Überprüfung im Gelände mit den beiden Findem und mit Unterstützung der Kreisarchäologie Göttingen brachte schnell Gewissheit. Bereits nach wenigen Minuten gelang am Hauptkamm der Fund weiterer römischer Geschossspitzen und vor allem eines Dolabra-Bruchstückes. Es stand nunmehr außer Frage, dass es sich um eine außerordentlich bedeutende Fundstelle handelte. Einvernehmlich wurde Stillschweigen über die Entdeckung vereinbart. - Zusammenfassung: Die römisch-germanische Auseinandersetzung am Harzhorn (Ldkr. Northeim, Niedersachsen). Im Juli 2008 wurden römische Militaria vom Harzhorn, Oldenrode FStNr. 55, Ldkr. Northeim, Niedersachsen, bekannt. Seitdem wird dieser Fundplatz systematisch prospektiert und ausgewertet, ergänzt durch gezielte Grabungen, um Sicherheit bei der Interpretation zu gewinnen. Sowohl die Art und Weise der Funde als auch ihre großräumigen Verteilungen weisen auf die Hinterlassenschaft eines Gefechtes zwischen römischen Einheiten und Germanen. Eine Serie von Fundmünzen ergibt einen terminus post quem von 225 n. Chr. AMS-Daten machen es wahrscheinlich, dass das Harzhorn-Ereignis vor 250 n. Chr. erfolgte. Beim gegenwärtigen Forschungsstand besteht am wahrscheinlichsten ein Zusammenhang mit der Expeditione Germaniae des Maximinus Thrax 235 n. Chr. / Abstract: The Roman-Germanic Confrontation at Harzhorn (Northeim District, Lower Saxony). In July 2008, Roman military artefacts were identified at Harzhorn, Oldenrode Cadastral Section Nr. 55, Northeim District, Lower Saxony. Since then, this site has been systematically surveyed and analysed, supplemented by targeted excavations to increase the reliability of the interpretation. The nature of the finds, as well as their large-scale distribution, indicate the aftermath of a battle between Roman units and their Germanic opponents. A series of coin finds results in a terminus post quern of AD 225. AMS data make it likely that the Harzhorn event occurred before AD 250. According to the present state of research, a connection with the Expeditione Germaniae of Maximinus Thrax in 235 AD appears most probable. / Résumé: Le conflit entre Romains et Germains au Harzhorn (Ldkr. Northheim, Basse-Saxe). Des militaria romains furent découverts en juillet 2008 au Harzhorn, Oldenrode site n° 55 (Ldkr. Northeim, Basse-Saxe). Depuis, ce site est prospecté et évalué systématiquement, et fait lobjet de deux fouilles ciblées en vue dobtenir une interprétation fiable.
