Er begründete mit der Figur des Lord Ruthven den Typus des modernen Vampirs, der das Genre bis heute prägt. - Cette réécriture, due à Cyprien Bérard, fut publiée par Charles Nodier qui rédigea pour l'édition un avant-propos intitulé: 'Observations préliminaires', qu'il placa en tête du premier volume. Il y signale la popularité qu'avait conquise le vampire à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. 'La France manquait donc d'une production littéraire sur les vampires!' The Observations Preliminaires are by Charles Nodier. Viets in his The London Editions of Polidori's The Vampyre mentions this work in his discussion of publications not in London ' In Paris an imitation of Le Vampire was written by Cyprien Berard . and published under the auspices of Charles Nodier in 1820. The footnote states 'First published in Feb 1820 .Berard's novel was popular and a second edition was called for in July.' Both works have the characters of Aubrey and Lord Ruthven.…
