Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - By: William Doub Bennett, Pub. 1994, reprinted 2022, 166 pages, Index, 8 1/2' x 11' soft cover, ISBN #978-1-63914-068-8.Orange County was formed in 1752 from Granville, Johnston, and Bladen counties. This transcription of these records provides an accurate description of the industrial and so…cial life in the colony. It provides specific information valuable to the genealogists. For example, the sale of the moveable property of John Andrew dated 11 Oct. 1783 (who, one finds from other records, died intestate) shows many sales to 'the widow,' not named. The widow, however, signs the account of the sales as Deborah Andrew. The 'true inventory of the estate of James McCallister,' dated 30 July 1771, shows among other items of personal property, 276 acres of land and was signed by Neil McCallister. Although the minutes of the Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions are missing for this period, we have an approximate date of death for James. Since Neil McCallister's inventory is dated 1 March 1775, we have a time frame for his death; his inventory is signed by Mary McCallister. One learns to wring out every bit of the information in every record. This volume is extremely valuable since it lists many names not found in the surviving court minutes and deed books.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - By: William D. Bennett, Pub. 1997, reprinted 2023, 176 pages, 8 1/2' x 11' soft cover, Index, ISBN #978-1-63914-169-2.This book covers Colonial Higher Courts, District Superior Courts, North Carolina Supreme Court, Treasurer and Comptroller Papers and State Auditors Papers. Compiled from the…loose-leaf registers in the NC State Archives entitled State Agency Finding Aids, the card catalog in the same room, and the card Catalogue of microfilm publications. Much of the book is a description of the records themselves, so that one knows what is available under each type of record, E.G. for which terms of General Court there are extant records in, say Feb, 1693. Although this book is primarily a catalog of the archival holdings named in the book title, within these pages are also the complete names of roughly 1,800 individuals for whom specific records are identified.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - By: William D. Bennett, Pub. 1998, 194 pages, 8 1/2' x 11' soft cover, Index, ISBN #978-1-63914-170-8.This is the second volume in a series designed to call the attention of researchers to State Agency Records, record collections at the North Carolina State Archives that are often overlooked,… or unknown to the researcher. The Military Collection and the Adjutant General's Papers, along with the Military Papers described in volume 1 contain nearly all the records concerning military activities held by the Archives. The two remaining major collections of military papers found in State Agency records are the Military Papers found in the Secretary of State Papers and the many petitions found in the General Assembly Session Records describing the petitioners' activities and injuries in various military conflicts. The Military Collection deals primarily with military conflicts in which North Carolina was involved. The Adjutant General's Papers provides most of the surviving material on the State's militia from the establishment of the office of Adjutant General in 1808 to the present. Included are records of units (organized for the Mexican War) that later disbanded because the Federal Officials delayed so long in sending officers to the State to swear-in these troops. It is also in this collection that one finds the major information concerning the Home Guards formed during the Civil War. Because so few names are found in the finding aids of this collection, no personal name index has been prepared. The personal name index in the Military Collection provides over 2,000 citations.
