He "showed remarkable insight into the plight of women", here offering a method by which women could achieve a successful career (ODNB). Bennett (1867-1931) was famous - and often unpopular - for prioritizing financial matters above all else in his journalism: "He profited in most senses of the word from the fact that his career coincided with the pre-eminence of the printed word in cultural life" (ODNB).
