Pen inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Beautiful First Modern Library Edition with this title which began in 1944. It was originally published as "Best Ghost Stories" beginning in 1919 and through 1944. ML binding style 8 in blue cloth with lettering in gilt upon maroon spine and front board labels. Anthology with classic stories by Algernon Blackwood, Rudyard Kipling, M.R. James, and many others. Square, tight and clean throughout with very light wear to spine ends and tips. Very attractive unclipped, though unpriced, dust jacket, ($.95 on rear panel and "95 cents a copy" on inside front flap; 304 titles listed), has very mild edge-wear and rubbing to hinges but is fresh and bright with no chipping, creases, toning or tears. A very pretty collectable copy of an uncommon edition, particularly in such high-grade condition. (Toledano #73.2 , p56 & 87).
