A collection of nine interpretive essays on Atlantic maritime history by Robert Albion's colleagues and former students from various disciplines. Albion was Professor Emeritus of Oceanic History and Affairs at Harvard University.

Civil War battle history along with hundreds of full page, double page, partial page and folding panorama engravings. Tan cloth printed in black, volumes 16.5 inches tall, chromolithograph additional title page in volume I. Good condiiton with some expected wear, including cover soil, wear to spine ends, hinges lightly internally cracked but secure, text blocks sound. One panorama in first volume has split along one fold line but all parts present; also another with a short closed tear, one text page with a corner chip with no loss of text. Pages are clean, no names or other markings. Hard Cover. Good. Elephant Folio - over 15" - 23" tall.

Pages 53 and 81 torn 7" from top. Folding illustratino following p. 170 is detached. edge. Folding illustration at p. 293 torn apart. A number of other pages have smaller tears at edges.
