Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - Fantasia Impromptu & FINIS constitute Benjamin DeCasseres' (1873-1945) most private writing, but even then, they were intended for publication and posterity. The first is a diary-like collection of notes and reminiscences began in December 1925. The latter was professed to be 'a summation of…all my books, of my lifelong beliefs.' Fantasia Impromptu was released as a series of booklets, six in total, that constitute his 'intellectual, emotional and spiritual autobiography.' They are filled with ruminations on daily life, aphorisms, esotericisms, and appeals to future readers. It is appropriately dedicated to: 'The Thinkers, Poets, Satirists, Individualists, Dare-Devils, Egoists, Satanists and Godolepts of Posterity.'FINIS is his final work, appropriately enough, and consists of three essays and a 'hymn,' all previously unpublished. The one focus of all of these pieces is Oblivion. Though he states in his introduction is was not necessarily meant to be his last work, he died before it was published, and his wife Bio prepared an introduction and included a poem of dedication. FINIS was released as a booklet the year of his death and has never been reprinted before.

In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Fair. 149, [3] pages. Covers worn, torn at spine, and board weak (restrengthened with glue). Dedicated to Arthur Leonard Ross. Inscribed by the author on the fep to Arthur Leonard Ross! The inscription on the fep reads: "Dear Arthur, There are only four copies of this book-probably the most restricted edition… of any work. There is an error in the copyright line. It should be 1936, there is a page missing giving an account of other books and the dust cover is missing. I am retaining 3 copies for myself and present this again to you with salutations. Yours, Ben To Arthur Leonard Ross from Benjamin DeCasseres New York, 1936". The author stated that "The essence of this book, the core of its thought, is that the Lie shall set you free. All is Fiction--which implies a Reality, forever hidden from us.This is a book of moods; but all moods are dictated by one's special sensibility, one's unique identity." Benjamin De Casseres (April 3, 1873 - December 7, 1945) (often DeCasseres) was an American journalist, critic, essayist and poet. He was born in Philadelphia and began working at the Philadelphia Press at an early age, but spent most of his professional career in New York City, where he wrote for various newspapers including The New York Times, The Sun and The New York Herald. He corresponded with prominent literary figures of his time, including H. L. Mencken, Edgar Lee Masters, and Eugene O'Neill. De Casseres wrote a variety of articles, essays and books on a wide-ranging topics including criticism, international relations and philosophy, as well as drama, fiction and poetry, often adopting a fin de siècle style. De Casseres was "an outspoken foe of communism" like fellow journalist H. L. Mencken. The poem "Moth-Terror" is perhaps De Casseres' most famous work. It was originally collected in the Second Book of Modern Verse (edited by De Casseres' colleague Jessie Rittenhouse) and has been included in various other anthologies since then. Arthur Leonard Ross, a New York attorney, met Emma Goldman in Paris in 1924 and became her legal representative in the United States, from which she had been deported in December 1919. He helped raise money for the purchase of her cottage in St. Tropez, sent books to her for her preparation of lectures in Toronto, negotiated with Alfred Knopf for the publication of her autobiography, and helped arrange her visit to the United States in 1934. "Arthur Leonard Ross, kindest and most lavish of men," she wrote in St. Tropez in 1931, "gave me his untiring efforts as legal representative and adviser. He was the rare type that one gets to consider in a short time as a good friend?" Ross died in New York in the spring of 1975. variant--Presumed first state of first edition/first printing--only 4 copies thus [stated].

In den WarenkorbPamphlet. Zustand: Good. No Dust Jacket. First Edition. Booklets 1-9 and 11 of The Decasseres Books, all published in 1936. The booklets are in fair-good condition. Booklets No. 1 and 2 have the most wear, with chipping and loss around the edges, #1 also has a sticker scar on the front cover. The other 8 booklets all have varyin…g degrees of chipping and edgewear. Some of the books still have the loose ad flyer for the set (of 12) tucked inside the front cover. Some of the book blocks are pulling away from the interior of the spines but all are holding together well. These booklets are scarce at all, finding 10 of them at once is surprising! Benjamin DeCasseres (sometimes De Casseres) was a Sephardic New Yorker, journalist and writer, who greatly admired Nietzsche and hyper-individualism, yet who decried both capitalism and socialism. These scarce booklets put forth some of his unusual philosophy. He was read and admired by H. L. Mencken, Jack London and Eugene O'Neill. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
