Delightful story tells how an impoverished hardworking mother and her 2 sweet little boys find a long lost rich grandfather. Spine faded, corners, head and tail of spine and hinges slightly rubbed, some foxing and slight soiling. No inscriptions, near very good. (Reprinted by Nelson in 1923). Small illustrations at the head and foot of each chapter. Woolf was the wife of Sir William Thomas Southorn, colonial officer who held the post of Colonial Secretary of Hong Kong from 1925 to 1936 (Southorn Playground in Wanchai is named after him). Her brother was Leonard Woolf who was married to Virginia Woolf. Chips of China is Woolf's experiences living in Hong Kong in the late 1920's, written as a series of vignette chapters; several were previously published in Hong Kong newspapers. Near Fine condition internally, some fading and wear to spine and boards, overall grades Very Good.

1st Edition. Black and white vignettes throughout, 82pp, orange papered boards with illustrated title label pasted down on the upper board, small repair at the gutter, light abrasions to paper covered boards, spine sunned, lovely clean copy internally. Written by the sister of Leonard Woolf, the husband of Virginia Woolf, these are humourous sketches of her years in Hong Kong.
