Erstausgabe
[Caricature] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (27 x 20cm), ix; [1]; [44]. With 23 colour halftone plates, including a frontispiece, by Beerbohm, pasted on one edge to captioned tissue-guarded leaves. Publisher's blue cloth to boards, gilt titles to upper and spine. Publisher's insignia in blind to lower. Leaves toned, though plates are as-new. Some minor damage to a few tissue-guards. Offsetting to endpapers. Edges toned. Binding lightly marked, including a cup stain to lower. Toning to spine. Minor wear to joints, corners, and spine extremities. Very good. In the author's note to this book, Beerbohm claims that 'in London, in the great days of a deep, smug, thick, rich, drab, industrial complacency, Rossetti shone' as someone too magnificent for the era in which they were born. What follows is many stunning caricatures of the Pre-Raphaelites, drawn during Beerbohm's time in Rapallo, Italy.
