Lovely ink gift inscription on the top of the first page. 7.75 by 6.25 inches with 71 unnumbered pages followed by two pages of publisher's adverts. Illustrations by Frances Beem on every page including 31 in full-color, the text pages contain vignettes and the pages with decorative frames in black and red. A great story/poem about old Grandad Coco Nut inviting different nuts from all over the world to his birthday party. Humanized 'nuts' of all types make an appearance in this amusing tale with some botany lessons and introduction to East Indians and the South Seas. The narrations is written in `a-b, a-b' couplets. Fairly uncommon with only 11 copies currently held in institutions. [oclc 18285531] Background Information: Elizabeth Gordon was a juvenile fantasy author whose other works include Flower Children, Bird Children, and Mother Earth's Children. Her passion was to help children connect with the food they eat. Hardcover with color pictorial paste-on.
