Lighthall, the remainder of the book comprises "The Goblin Lore of French Canada" illustrated by Raoule Barre which first appeared in the Century M…agazine of New York, "Macloune", also illustrated by Barre, "Indian Picture and Symbol Writing" with 14 full-page illustrations, a folding map and numerous in-text line drawings, and "Legend of the North Pacific", the text of a paper read on a voyage from Vancouver to Japan. Initials, decorations and tail-pieces printed in red throughout. Apparently the de-luxe edition with maroon watered silk eps and limp maroon suede covers with gilt titles in a blind-stamped decorative frame to front cover. There are two interesting inscriptions on the blank pages, the first on the fep from the writer of the foreword "To Mrs. E.M. Tiffin with the kind regards of Mr. & Mrs. W.D. Lighthall. Zurich, July, 1906" and on the third blank "A l'hon'ble [P?] Grouard de la Com [word unreadable] du Canada, Hommage de'l'auteur H.Beaugard". In good condition, edges of suede turned and with a few marks, paper lightly age -toned at edges. Grouard is thought to be the Catholic Oblate Missionary Emile Grouard who was fluent in the Cree, Chipewyan and Beaver languages and composed hymns in the latter. He was also a promoter and printer of texts in indigenous languages and. "Believing that it would better their conditions, he encouraged his region's First Nations people to take treaty, and was present for the initial signing of Treaty 8 at Lesser Slave Lake in the summer of 1899."
