A history and guide to Clapham in south London, covering the area's churches, politics, boundaries, societies, schools, sports, entertainment, police, trams, and illustrated throughout with photographs. The end of the book has a large fold-out street map. There are also a few adverts the size of a large ticket which have been bound in. Condition: The covers and page edges are quite heavily marked and foxed, but the contents are in very good order. The map is in good condition.

Card covers rubbed and creased at edges, scuffed and cracked at spine ends, shelf worn. The first leaf has a is creased along the long edge, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Battley was a life-long printer, working out of Clapham in South London; he was also a conscientious objector during the First World War and, latterly, and MP. His views on the art of printing were tempered by his experiences - both beautiful and practical. After a brief historical overview, this book has sections on The Alphabet, The Compositor, Distribution of Type, Printing Presses, Embossing and Relief Stamping, Blocks, Binding, Paper, Ink etc. A hard to find title.
