Penned on a "Sunday", the British actor writes "My Dear Hastings, Do try and come - I'm sure we shall have a pleasant hour." Signed in full "Morris Barnett". Folded horizontally and vertically with a tiny chip to the right edge. Once mounted in an album, there are gray paper remnants adhering to the edge of the verso of the blank leaf with a couple of light glue stains to the corners. Very good. The British actor and dramatist Morris Barnett (1800-1856) grew up in Paris. He decided to perform as an actor after studying music. He was hired by Alfred Bunn for the Drury Lane Theatre in 1833, performing as Tom Drops in the comedy "The Schoolfellows" and then in "Capers and Coronets". His 1837 performance as "Monsieur Jacques" in the musical of the same name created much excitement at the St. James Theatre. He took a break to pursue literary endeavors, returning briefly to perform in the "Old Guard" and subsequently wrote as the musical critic for the "Morning Post" and the "Era". He gave several farewell performances at the Adelphi Theatre before sailing for America but died soon after reaching Montreal.
