The two Australian literary collaborators Marjorie Barnard (1897-1987) and Flora Eldershaw (1897-1956) worked together from the 1920s through the 1940s, publishing histories, novels, plays, essays, lectures and short stories. John Piper (1773 - 1851) was a military officer and public servant in New South Wales. He sailed on the convict ship 'Pitt', arriving in Sydney in 1792; the following year he requested to serve at the convict settlement of Norfolk Island, where he later became acting commandant. Large 4to, xv, 201pp, [3]pp. Original full maroon gilt calf. Spine and front cover gilt. With a color title page vignette, and color plate, illustrated maps at end papers, all by Adrian Feint.
