Inscribed by the translator on the initial blank, 'With the compliments of the author', but the name of the recipient illegible. Baring was a banker and Tory M.P., in both following his father of the same name; he had been educated at Harrow and Wadham College, Oxford, then becoming a Fellow at Brasenose, as recorded on the title-page here. The present volume follows his translations of Horace into English Rhyme, published in 1870.
