The idea for convening a Fifth International Symposium on Platinum and Other Metal Coordination Compounds in Cancer Chemotherapy sprang from the consideration that sufficient time had passed since the Fourth Symposium held in Burlington, Vermont, June 22-24, 1983. Düring such time several advances have occurred in the chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology and clinical use of platinum and other metal complexes. This volume includes the manuscripts of the plenary (12) and invited (19) Speakers along with 157 abstracts of posters to be presented at the Symposium either in appropriate sessions or in microsymposia. All these contributions review recent developments and point to some new promising areas in the field. The Organizing Committee wishes to thank all contributors for their efforts.
