In den WarenkorbHardcover. Zustand: Good (+). 1st ed. Half leather and maroon cloth cover. 153, 6 charts after p.77, (2 unf. 3 col.), 1 tinted litho plate, 6 charts (4 unf.) after p.134, ex-University of London with their Depository label fr.free endpaper, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine's round stamps to blank fly-leaves at both ends plus their impressed stamp top t.p., three other very minor pen lib-markings, 2 extremely tiny pin-prick wormholes through text to leaf 15/16, and similar in lower margin from end through to 3rd chart after p.134, none of these significantly affect the text and are mostly initially quite hard to discern, otherwise tight, clean & no further marking. Covers (presumably as issued, see binder's small label bottom fr.pastedown: 'P.S.King & Son, Parliamentary Bookseller') are generally clean but maroon (perhaps orig.purple) stippled cloth seriously faded with a few sm.patches of loss to back, leather edges and extremities rubbed, gilt lettered sp. with added gilt lib. mark at bottom. The main text ends with charts after p.77, being followed by Appendix A. 'Dr Klein's Microscopical and Pathological Investigations, together with Records of Hospital Cases' through to p.93, where begins Appendix B. 'Report upon a Chemical Examination of the Excreta od Diarrhoea cases' by Dr Theodore Cash, Appendix C., beginning p.107, 'A detailed Account of the Characters of the Diarrhoeal Illness in fatal Leicester cases of different Durations' (no author given, possibly Ballard), Appendices D-H ensue from p.113 pertaining variously to symptoms of 'the Diarrhoeal malady', convulsive phenomena in fatal cases and an 1876 outbreak in Helmsley, Yorkshire (by Dr Bruce Low) which includes a 'genealogy' of the passing of infection through 1st-62nd cases. Following the block of charts pertaining to these appendices after p.134 is G.B.Longstaff's 'The Geographical Distribution of Diphtheria in England and Wales', pp.135-153, not given an Appendix letter. This is because Dr Ballard (no initial provided) was the author/ compiler of the first part of the Report which pertained to Diarrhoea, Longstaff's being the separate, shorter, report on Diphtheria. An interesting historical document for public health and epidemiology historians.

Buch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - What would you do if you were told you had Parkinson's disease in the prime of your life Would you wallow in self-pity, or would you continue to write poems and stories with great enthusiasm Would you use your disease as an excuse to withdraw from the world, focusing solely on your physical and mental health, or would you challenge yourself to explore new ways to write about Parkinson's, perhaps through sonnets and other forms of poetry In Invitations: Fiction and Poetry From A Life of Writing by Bruce Ballard, you'll witness how one writer navigates these questions, not only through his writing about Parkinson's but also through the exploration of related themes such as life, love, sickness, and death. From autobiographical poetry to fictional short stories, from the gay men he has found community with to the disease he continues to grapple with, Invitations is one writer's exploration of his life through multiple genre-defying lenses.
