Vorwort Psychische Störungen alter Menschen sind ein zentrales Thema der Nervenheilkunde, dessen Bedeutung aufgrund demographischer Veränderungen weiter zunehmen wird. In diesem Band sind grundlegende und krankheitsbezogene Beiträge versammelt, deren Autoren in den letzten Jahren großenteils durch eigene Forschungsarbeiten zu diesen Themen hervorgetreten sind. Praktisch wichtige gerontopsychiatrische Erkrankungen werden im allgemeinen und im speziellen Teil des Buches unter verschiedenen Blickwinkeln behandelt. Die Darstellung der Krankheitsbilder folgt dabei Leitlinien der zehnten Revision der Internationalen Klassifikation psychischer Störungen (ICD-10). Auch aktuellere Aspekte, die noch keinen Eingang in die ICD-10 fanden, sind berücksichtigt. Überschneidungen und Divergenzen wurden bewußt in Kauf genommen, um eine geschlossene Darstellung innerhalb der einzelnen Kapitel zu gewährleisten. Auf ständige Querverweise zwischen den Kapiteln wurde ebenso verzichtet, wie auf eine Vereinheitlichung abweichender Ansichten. Die Wiedergabe einiger kontroversen Standpunkte und schwieriger Zusammenhänge erschien angemessen, um den derzeitigen Kenntnisstand zutreffend abzubilden. Die individuelle Handschrift der Verfasser ist deutlich erkennbar, etwas verwischt wurde sie lediglich bei den Übersetzungen des Herausgebers aus dem Englischen.
