Hardback. Zustand: Good. First edition. A rare copy of this 18th-century Latin medical reference text from E. G. Baldinger, printed at the bookshop of the Marburg Academy. The first and only edition of this medical title. Vanishingly scarce in commerce, with six institutional copies held and last sold at auction in 1972. Frontispiece silohuette portrait of the author. Compiled by German physician Ernst Gottfried Baldinger, who moved to Marburg in 1785 after becoming professor of medicine at Jena. Among his pupils were Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, Samuel Thomas von Sommerring, Albrecht Thaer, and Johann Christian Wiegleb. This comprehensive medical reference includes titles on nutrition, toxicology, pharmacy and general, medical and surgical therapy, including works on opium and fascinum. In the contemporary paper covered boards, with faint ink inscription to the head of the spine. Externally, extremities are toned, notably to the spine, and marks and spots. Internally, firmly bound.
