Inscribed by Bessborough to W. Abbey on the front free-endpaper, "Though these fish may seem to you but minnows, the story of our trip may none the less amuse you," and dated March 1943. Additionally, Beesborough has inked the full names of the members of the fishing party on the printed roster following the title page. BALDEMEC is a composite pseudonym, made up from the initials of Bessborough, A.L. ("Tommy") D., Eric M. and Eddy C., all members of the fishing party. Vere Brabazon Ponsonby, ninth Earl of Bessborough, was governor general of Canada from 1931 to 1935. He wrote most of this account of a week's fishing in July 1934 (with each of the remaining members contributing short pieces under the heading Some Other Points of View). After the session of Parliament, the party travelled by the Canadian Government steamer Lady Grey, called in for dinner at the Chateau Menier, where everything "is exactly as M. Menier left it". The next morning the party left for the Jupiter River, "the best river on the island," and spent the week of 6 to 13 July there. Uncommon. Bibliotheca Salmo Salar 61. Not in Bruns or Lande. Baldemec is a composite pseudonym made up of the initials of members of the party B,A,L,D, Eric M, and Eddy C. The B was Sir V Besborough former Governor General of Canada. This copy presented by B to Major Max Bollam also includes a letter on headed paper "Goverment House, Ottawa" to Bollam from B presenting the copy and noting the party consists of Lomany Lascelles (?), Eric Mackenzie esce (?), Eddie Coloville and myself, some of the names are difficult to read. It is a salmon fishing book of charm and rarity. the book varys wildly in style and content from straight facts and figures to lyrical and poetic expectations, reference Charles Wood bibliotheca Salmo Salar No 61.
